Why Support Atlanta Ballet
As the nation’s oldest ballet company and Atlanta’s leading dance institution, Atlanta Ballet makes a unique and much-needed artistic contribution to metropolitan Atlanta. Founded in 1929, the mission of Atlanta Ballet is to enrich the human spirit through dance; inspire through performance; and empower through dance education while building on the rich history of dance.
With a budget of $10 million, Atlanta Ballet is the region’s largest arts organization that is not part of the Woodruff Arts Center.
In performance, no other professional dance company in the Southeast offers audiences the same height of dance artistry or provides dancers and choreographers the same caliber of professional opportunities.
We are a nationally recognized professional dance company that reaches 72,000 people annually. By focusing on works that are challenging, innovative, and of the highest artistic quality, Atlanta Ballet is capitalizing on the unique and versatile talents of its professional company dancers and the bold artistic vision of our leadership.
Nationally Renowned Centre for Dance Education
Atlanta Ballet runs the region’s only accredited professional performing arts school. No other arts organization in the Southeast provides the quality of training offered by Atlanta Ballet.
Our Centre for Dance Education, with three Atlanta locations, has become the sixth largest dance school in America. Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance, we have over 1,200 students ages 2 to adult. We are bringing new and diverse faces to ballet, too; at our Midtown location, 46% of our students are African-American or Hispanic, among other nationalities and ethnicities.
Atlanta Ballet is unique in comparison to most local performing arts organizations because our dancers and musicians live full-time in Atlanta; they attend college, raise families, buy homes, and pay taxes here.
Arts Education in the Community
In community programming, Atlanta Ballet has a strong history of partnering with public schools and community organizations to offer disadvantaged members of the community access to dance classes and performances.
- Centre Dance, our in-school dance program, incorporates dance classes into the academic curriculum for 1,000 students
- Kids In Step student matinees bring over 20,000 students into the theatre to see performances, with free or discounted tickets for Title I schools
- Atlanta Ballet's AileyCamp transforms the lives of 100 deserving students every summer
- The Scholarship Program provides $100,000 in support annually
