Atlanta Ballet thanks all of the organizations and individuals who supported the 2014 Ballet Ballet and made it such a success!
Check back in the fall for information about the 2015 Ballet Ball.
Each year, Atlanta Ballet hosts the Atlanta Ballet Ball, its largest fundraising event benefiting Atlanta Ballet and Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education. The evening features dining, dancing, live and silent auctions, as well as a special dance performance from our Company artists.
The 2014 Atlanta Ballet Ball honored Atlanta Ballet Artistic Director Emeritus Robert Barnett. Mr. Barnett with his wife Virginia came to the Atlanta Civic Ballet in 1958 as associate directors and principal dancers at the invitation of Dorothy Alexander, Atlanta Ballet's founder. They both had been members of the New York City Ballet, under the direction of George Balanchine, where they enjoyed illustrious careers. At the event of Ms. Alexander's retirement in 1961, Mr. Barnett became the Company’s artistic director. Under Mr. Barnett’s tenure, the name of the company was changed to The Atlanta Ballet and it was made a fully professional company in 1967. He set the foundation for the enormous growth the organization has experienced since its inception in 1929. Mr. Barnett has mentored generations of dancers with his encouraging warmth, generous grace and a twinkle of mischief. We are honored that we are able to recognize his indelible impact on Atlanta Ballet and American dance history.
