Atlanta Ballet's Nutcracker

Atlanta Ballet Toasts its Nutcracker Alumni!

Sugar Plum Fairies, snowflakes, party children to mice - we can all remember our Nutcracker years: waiting in the wings for our turn to step on the stage. This year, Atlanta Ballet celebrates its 50th Anniversary of performing Nutcracker. It all began at the April 11, 1959 recital performance when the curtain rose on Act II of The Nutcracker 'The Kingdom of the Sugar Plum Fairy.' Within a few short years, Nutcracker became a holiday tradition in Atlanta.

Now 50 years later, Robert Barnett, who both staged and danced the Cavalier in the 1959 performance, and Anne Burton Avery, his Sugar Plum Fairy, are returning to Opening Night of Atlanta Ballet's Nutcracker at the Fabulous Fox Theatre on Friday, December 11th. Wonderful 50th Anniversary Nutcracker celebrations will fill our holidays - but first, Atlanta Ballet would like to toast its Nutcracker cast alumni on Opening Night. We hope this anniversary night will offer alumni a rare moment to meet Bobby, Anne, and some of our first dancers.

Our Opening Night invitation to you includes access to a special $50 50th Anniversary ticket offer. Click here to purchase tickets (Use passcode FLOWER). Bring your family and friends Friday, December 11 to Atlanta Ballet's Nutcracker, choreographed by Artistic Director John McFall in 1995, followed by a casual reception across Peachtree Street at the newly renovated Georgian Terrace Hotel. We envision this gathering to be both a wonderful anniversary reunion of our Nutcracker alumni and an opportunity for Atlanta Ballet to welcome you back.

We also invite all alumni to email us at nutcracker@atlantaballet.com with your current address, telephone, and email information so that we can stay connected and share upcoming performances and events as well as enrollment opportunities in our Centre for Dance Education - now with three locations in Midtown, Buckhead and Cobb. We will also be moving to our new home on Marietta Street this August 2010. Plan to visit us there next year!

Sincerely,

John McFall, Artistic Director
Sharon Story, Dean of the Centre for Dance Education
