December 5—28, 2008 | 25 Performances at the Fox Theatre Magic is alive and well at the Fox Theatre this holiday season. Atlanta Ballet’s Nutcracker ushers in the season with an extravagant performance full of wonder and surprise—dancing snowflakes, mischievous mice, and lively nesting dolls. February 5—15, 2009 | 8 Performances For more than 100 years, Bram Stoker’s Dracula has haunted our days and inhabited our dreams. Now we bring his tale of seduction and surrender to the grand stage of the Cobb Energy Centre. It’s a dark, dramatic ballet, a spine- tingling journey to Transylvania and Jonathan Harker’s destined meeting with an elegant vampire with a menacing bite. Sensuous costumes. Eerily supernatural effects. Dracula is a cinematic work that will usher in Valentine’s weekend with passion and bloodthirsty thrills. March 26—29, 2009 | 5 Performances In 1909 the legendary Sergei Diaghilev commissioned the 27 year old Stravinsky to score music for a new ballet. The Firebird was born, becoming the first of several commissions that transformed the world of music and dance forever. Join Atlanta Ballet’s dancers as they bring to the stage a unique interpretation of this timeless tale. The spectacular evening of mixed repertoire will also feature an exciting new artistic voice as nationally acclaimed choreographer Darrell Grand Moultrie joins us to create a world premiere just for Atlanta Ballet. Hailed as &ldquot; someone to watch&rdquot; by The New York Times, Moultrie was a recipient of a 2007 Princess Grace Choreography Fellowship Award and has created works for companies across the United States including Colorado Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, and Ailey II. May 7—16, 2009 | 7 Performances Travel with Atlanta Ballet to sunny Spain for an evening filled with excitement, comedy and true love. From Cervantes’ classic novel comes the lively story of Kitri and Basilio, two young lovers brought together by a very unlikely matchmaker—Don Quixote himself. Audiences of all ages will be thrilled by the dancers’ fancy footwork, colorful costumes, and contagious energy. It’s a ballet treat that is poignant, passionate, and sizzling with spice.
