Technical Requirements for Mixed Rep Evening

Atlanta Ballet's technical requirements are specifically designed to allow presenters and Atlanta Ballet to produce the most exciting performances possible. Atlanta Ballet has numerous programs to fit any presenter's stage and budget.

1. Technical Questionnaire and Theater Drawings
Presenter will provide Atlanta Ballet with the completed Technical Questionnaire and Theater drawings to facilitate program and scheduling decisions including:
a. scaled ground plan
b. center-line cross-section
c. stage pipe/batten line plot

2. Theater Availability
Atlanta Ballet requires exclusive use of the Theater, its dressing rooms, the crew, and the equipment detailed below for the day prior to the performance(s), as well as the entire day of the performance(s). If this is not possible or difficult, please notify Atlanta Ballet in advance to determine if schedule adjustments can be made. The presenter should provide Theater availability for the pre-hanging of lights, moving or striking of soft goods, and other items required to prepare the Theater for the performance and a like time to restore the theater after the last performance. All of these items must be in place prior to Atlanta Ballet's arrival at the Theater.

3. Stage Dimensions
The most desirable stage size is 42 feet of width at the proscenium, and 35 feet of depth from the curtain line to the last available pipe. Smaller stages may require special programming.

4. Masking and Rigging
Atlanta Ballet requires a clear stage space and a relatively clear off-stage space, with an adequate number of black velour legs and borders (generally 5 pairs of legs and 4 borders) to properly mask the stage. Moving, counter-balanced pipes are needed for 7 light pipes and Atlanta Ballet's 3 backdrops.

5. Lighting Equipment
Atlanta Ballet does not carry its own lighting equipment, and is dependent on the house lighting equipment. Atlanta Ballet's staff works closely with the Presenter's Technical Director for the use of house equipment. Atlanta Ballet requires the Presenter to provide a minimum lighting set up. It is understood that there may be a need for the Presenter to rent additional equipment to supplement the house equipment. The following represents a typical minimum request, which is subject to program selection:

a. All overhead and boom lighting, which is to consist of at least the following:
• (70) 6x9 Lekos @ 575w
• (40) 6x12 Lekos @ 575w
• (12) 6x16 Lekos @ 575w
• (16) PAR 64 MFL @ 1000w
• (8) PAR 64 WFL @ 1000w

b. Cyclorama lighting for a total of 3 washes from above and 3 washes from below.
c. 8 side lighting booms, at least 12' tall, with 5 side arms per boom.
d. All front of house units. Sufficient quantity of fixtures capable of supplying 4 full stage front washes.
e. A lighting control system, including dimmers, cable and a computer light board to accommodate the above equipment.
f. Color media for all front of house, cyclorama, ground row units, and any over stage or boom lighting units not listed above.

The light plot must be hung, plugged and working prior to Atlanta Ballet's arrival to accommodate Atlanta Ballet's touring schedule.

6. Ladders
Atlanta Ballet requires at least one A-frame on a rolling dolly, cherry picker or man lift of sufficient height to reach the light pipes (28' in a typical Theater), and two 8' step ladders to change boom colors at intermission.

7. Dressing Rooms
A minimum of two well-lighted dressing rooms for exclusive use of the Atlanta Ballet, each with tables, chairs, and mirrors for 14 dancers and 10' of clothes racks; non-public toilets; and hot water. The dressing room area should be clean and set up prior to Atlanta Ballet's arrival.

8. Piano
Atlanta Ballet requires a rehearsal piano for the purposes of accompanying Atlanta Ballet's class. If the program selected for this performance requires the use of a piano in the pit, additional specifications for type of piano and pit set-up will be included.

9. Sound Equipment
A high fidelity sound system is imperative for Atlanta Ballet performances. Please be aware that it may be necessary to supplement the existing system by renting additional equipment to meet the specifications required. Any additional expense incurred shall be borne solely by the Presenter. Specifications for the system are subject to prior approval of Atlanta Ballet's Technical Director.

The system must include:
a. A full range system capable of reproducing stereophonic program in a wide range of musical styles with smooth and even frequency response throughout the auditorium.
b. A stage monitoring system, controlled independently of the house system, consisting of two separate mixes creating a stereophonic image on stage (left and right).
c. Two switched microphones (SM-58s or equivalent). One should be located in the center of the auditorium bussed to the monitor system for use during rehearsals. The other should be located backstage at the stage manager position bussed to the house system with sufficient cable to reach to the stage apron for possible curtain speech.

10. Crew
The number of stagehands needed is dependent on the type of theater and the requirements of the ballet(s) to be performed. A typical minimum crew call would consist of the following:
• the Presenter's technical director
• a light board operator
• a sound board operator
• a flyman
• eight working stagehands (to assist in the unloading of Atlanta Ballet's equipment, hanging soft goods, installing the dance floor and focusing the lights).
Generally this call will take four to six hours PROVIDING the light plot has been pre- hung and checked.

The crew for the run of the Performance(s) will then be needed for a call to program the board and go over all the cues for the Performance(s). This crew will consist of:
• a light board operator
• soundboard operator
• a flyman
• two deckhands to change color
• a prop person to clean the floor.

This call usually takes three to four hours.

There will also be a full technical rehearsal with the dancers for two hours on the afternoon of the performance(s). The crew for the programming call and the rehearsal must be the same personnel as the crew that will work the Performance(s).

The same number of stagehands used at the load-in will be required immediately following the final performance to strike Atlanta Ballet's equipment and load the truck. This will take one to two hours.

In order to achieve the highest possible production values it is imperative that the Presenter provide a professional light board operator and a sound board operator experienced in running sound for dance. Final approval of personnel hired by the Presenter, in these positions only, is required by Atlanta Ballet.

11. Floor
Atlanta Ballet will not be required to rehearse or perform in any theater or other facility which is unsafe, unsanitary or which contains a floor that is not a safe floor for dance. No rehearsals or performances will be located on a concrete, marble floor or upon any other inflexible surface. Atlanta Ballet will not be required to rehearse or perform upon any wooden floors that are directly laid over similar surfaces lacking in safe dance resiliency or on floors with irregular or uneven surfaces.

12. Temperature
At all times temperature in performance hall and dressing rooms shall not be less than sixty-eight (68) degrees Fahrenheit or exceed ninety (90) degrees Fahrenheit. Atlanta Ballet shall not be required to render services when the aforementioned temperature ranges are not met.

In the event that the Presenter cannot fully meet any of the requirements noted above, the Presenter should, prior to acceptance, contact Atlanta Ballet's Director of Production and Touring, David J Tatu, at (404) 873-5811 ext. 313 to discuss written amendments to this agreement.
