Design Director

Atlanta Ballet seeks a creative and motivated Design Director who thrives in a fast-paced environment to join a dynamic marketing and communications team.


Summary

This position is full-time, salaried, and exempt from overtime. The Design Director, reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, is responsible for leading the creative work of the marketing program and maintaining consistent brand image in all marketing collateral.

This position will provide creative solutions from concept through execution that support business and brand-building strategies. The Design Director will work with Marketing, Advancement, Production, and Centre for Dance Education teams to successfully communicate, evolve, and execute a strong design standard that showcases Atlanta Ballet as a performing arts leader. This position is responsible for designing Atlanta Ballet printed materials, promotions, advertisements, and other design collateral, as well as art directing photo shoots, managing pre- and post-production, and leading junior team members.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as internal brand creative champion; direct internal and external partners to execute creative work that maintains the Atlanta Ballet and Centre for Dance Education brands.
  • Concept and produce designs for all print, digital, advertising, and other collateral; work across all departments to develop design solutions that are elevated, strategic, and on-brand.
  • Art direct photo shoots and work closely with photographers on all aspects of the pre- and post-production process.
  • Manage review, proofing, and feedback implementation on all design projects.
  • Meet deadlines, manage production schedules, and make revisions in a timely manner.
  • Maintain relationships with appropriate vendors, including illustrators, printers, and photographers.
  • Lead, manage, and mentor Jr. Graphic Designer

Qualifications:

  • Portfolio of sophisticated, artistic work
  • BA/BS Degree in graphic design, photography, visual communications, or other creative field, or equivalent experience
  • Strong design capabilities and proficiency in Adobe CC (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Knowledge of contemporary typesetting methods and photo manipulation
  • Knowledge of technical aspects related to design, photography, and production
  • Experience applying design systems to a wide array of assets while maintaining brand consistency
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize, multitask, and take ownership of projects
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through skills
  • Ability to delegate responsibilities
  • Organized, adaptable, and deadline-oriented
  • Ability to take projects from concept to execution with minimal oversight
  • Understanding of available and appropriate promotional tools and tactics
  • Excellent at giving and receiving feedback
  • Enthusiasm to contribute to marketing initiatives
  • Strong conceptual background

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $65,000, plus benefits.
