COVID-19 Update: "Giselle" Rescheduled. New Performance Dates: May 15-17, 2020

A message regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19), including Centre closings, and postponed and cancelled performance dates.

Atlanta Ballet Family –

We are deeply grateful for your vigilance and commitment to dance and dance education as we navigate the development of COVID-19. The health and safety of the Atlanta Ballet community is our top priority, and Atlanta Ballet leadership continues to monitor the situation by the hour.

Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education – Class Update:

Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education follows the lead of Fulton County School Systems in regards to class cancellations and Centre closings.  Based on the advice of local officials, all classes and Centre activities at all three locations will be cancelled starting Monday, March 16, until further notice.

Atlanta Ballet Performance Update:

Our dancers have been rehearsing the choreography, the orchestra has been preparing the music, the costume shop has been putting the finishing touches on beautiful tutus, and we know you have been looking forward to seeing the classic, romantic story of Giselle come to life on stage. Unfortunately, the rapidly evolving developments regarding COVID-19 have forced us to change plans.

In accordance with CDC’s guidance for large events, we regret to inform you that Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre is temporarily closed through at least March 31 and our upcoming performances of Giselle are now cancelled. While this is disappointing and presents serious challenges for our organization, our priority remains the health and safety of our patrons, supporters, artists, students, parents and staff.

We want our valued patrons to have the chance to experience what is truly a magnificent production, so instead of the Firebird program initially scheduled to close out our 2019|2020 Season, Giselle will now take place the weekend of May 15-17. Atlanta Ballet is currently exploring the possibility of bringing the pieces that were set to make up the Firebird program to be included in next season’s repertory.

If you are a Giselle or Firebird ticketholder, you will be receiving an email in the coming days with more information, and updates will be posted here, as well.

Atlanta Ballet has always relied on the loyal support of subscribers and donors, and we now need you more than ever. As a nonprofit arts organization, Atlanta Ballet resources are put to the test during local and global crises such as this. We are beyond grateful of our community’s continued support and willingness to help us and fellow arts organizations return to the studio and stage as soon as possible. With that said, if you are unable to attend the new performance date, we ask that – if you are able – to please consider donating the value of your Giselle tickets to Atlanta Ballet. Your contribution will tremendously help our organization survive this crisis and return to a full season as soon as we can.

To stay up-to-date on all developments and updates in regards to Centre classes and activities as well as Atlanta Ballet performances, please continue to check in on our website and follow Atlanta Ballet and Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education on social media.

Thank you for your support of Atlanta Ballet – your understanding, patience and confidence as we navigate this unprecedented situation is greatly appreciated.

Stay well,

Atlanta Ballet
