In 1909, the legendary Sergei Diaghilev commissioned the 27 year-old Stravinsky to score music for a new ballet. The Firebird was born, becoming the first of several commissions that transformed the world of music and dance forever. The spectacular evening of mixed repertoire will also feature an exciting new artistic voice as nationally acclaimed choreographer Darrell Grand Moultrie joins us to create a world premiere just for Atlanta Ballet. Hailed as “someone to watch” by The New York Times, Moultrie was a recipient of a 2007 Princess Grace Choreography Fellowship Award and has created works for companies across the United States including Colorado Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, and Ailey II.
