Former Artistic Director John McFall Wins ArtsATL's Luminary Award

ArtsATL recently announced four winners for its inaugural Luminary Awards, which "commemorat[es] the passionate, creative and innovative spirit of Atlanta's arts community." These honorees included John McFall, former Atlanta Ballet artistic director, who was selected for the the Beacon Award for Community Engagement. He is being recognized for his commitment to improving access to dance education in Atlanta with the establishment of the Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education. Founded by John McFall in 1995, the Centre serves over 20,000 people each year.

It was a competitive selection process for the first year with 80 nominations across the four awards. The selection panel included recognized members of the local arts community, including Atlanta Ballet's new artistic director, Gennadi Nedvigin. The public is welcome to join the winners and the selection committee for the awards ceremony on January 22, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Terminal West. The event will include live performances and short films on each of the honorees. Details and tickets are available here.
