Remembering Lavona Currie

Lavona Currie holds an extraordinary place in the hearts of all of us at Atlanta Ballet. A very special light, influence and personality, she joined the Board in 1977, serving on the Board of Trustees and in Emeritus for 46 years. Lavona was an incredible supporter of Atlanta Ballet and the Centre for Dance Education.

She lit up any room she walked into, loved everyone and they loved her in return. She passed away peacefully at her home on February 7, and was surrounded by family.

In celebration of Lavona’s incredible life and contributions to Atlanta Ballet, a performance will be dedicated to her later in the season.

But for now, let’s celebrate an amazing life of curiosity, art, travel, beauty – and of course, love. Bravo, Lavona. We will miss you but know that you will always be with us, smiling on our students, dancers and performances.
