Get Your Tickets for ArtCAN at Atlanta Ballet’s Studios on November 9th
ArtCAN on Saturday, November 9, 2013 is a unique and original fundraising event for pancreatic cancer research that features a fine art auction and incredible performances from exclusively selected visual and performing artists from around the world who have been closely affected by cancer.
ArtCAN has assembled an unprecedented collaboration of the performing and visual arts, bringing together partnerships with Atlanta Ballet, The Atlanta Opera, The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and Alliance Theatre at the Woodruff Arts Center to help raise money and awareness for Pancreatic Cancer. ArtCAN benefits the Joseph C. Monastra (JCM) Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research (501c3), which supports critical cancer research at both Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions and Emory University School of Medicine.
ArtCAN will be an evening of hors d’oeuvres, signature cocktails, culinary delights, keynote addresses, fine art auction, and original performances from ArtCAN partners and selected artists. In an unprecedented collaborative effort, three Atlanta performing arts institutions have united their creative genius to create a performance piece that truly defines the quality every person affected by cancer must call on – a sense of hope. Aptly titled “Speranza” (Italian for “hope”), this collaborative piece began as a musical elegy composed by Juan R. Ramírez, principal violinist with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and founder & artistic director of Atlanta Virtuosi Foundation, Inc. To expand on and deepen the experience of this elegy, an Italian operatic libretto was composed by Soprano Isabella Baer de Cortes and ballet choreography was added by Armando Luna, choreographer and principal teacher at Atlanta Ballet. The evening also includes a performance of Company ballet mistress Sarah Hillmer's "Thank you for..." by Atlanta Ballet Centre Theatre.
