Press Alert: Ballet Mistress Sarah Hillmer Talks about Working with Twyla Tharp

When Twyla Tharp first created The Princess & the Goblin on Atlanta Ballet in 2012, Sarah Hillmer, ballet mistress at Atlanta Ballet, was by her side. Sarah even flew to Canada to help with the staging for The Royal Winnipeg Ballet's premiere of the production, which the company co-produced with Atlanta Ballet. Now, Ms. Tharp has left her in charge of re-staging this enchanting fairytale ballet for Atlanta Ballet. Click here to read the full interview in which Sarah discusses the process of working with legendary choreographer Twyla Tharp and her journey to re-stage Twyla Tharp's The Princess & the Goblin.

"Everything is thinking, what would Twyla want here? What choice would she make? It’s intimidating. She created the piece for the dancers in our company five years ago. Our dancers have changed; they’re better dancers than they were five years ago and there’s new ones as well. There’s a different energy and a different mix. It’s also responding to that, and letting that live and letting the dancers be who they are."

See Twyla Tharp's The Princess & the Goblin when it returns for one weekend only, April 15-17, 2016, at the Cobb Energy Centre!
