Choreographer-in-Residence
Claudia Schreier is the Choreographer in Residence at Atlanta Ballet and has choreographed, directed, and produced for dance, opera, and film across the U.S. and internationally. She has created close to 60 works and has been commissioned by numerous companies and organizations, including Miami City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Boston Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Richmond Ballet, Vail Dance Festival, Jacob’s Pillow, Guggenheim Works & Process, Juilliard Opera, and ABT Studio Company. Her works for Atlanta Ballet include You Dig, The Rite of Spring, Nighthawks, Carnivale, Fauna, Pleiades Dances, and First Impulse, named a Standout Performance by Pointe Magazine. Schreier and Atlanta Ballet partnered with the Cathedral Choir Society in 2022 to present Berlioz's Roméo et Juliette at the Washington National Cathedral. In 2021, Schreier released Force of Habit, a film commissioned by Guggenheim Works & Process and co-presented by Atlanta Ballet. She has contributed to programs at the White House, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center, including the Kennedy Center Honors. She frequently collaborates with composers and visual artists and will premiere a new film with Rashid Johnson in Fall 2026. Her work is the subject of several documentaries, including PBS’s Emmy Award-Winning “Dancing on the Shoulders of Giants” (Capital Region). Schreier presented her TEDx talk “Thinking On Your Feet,” at Columbia University in 2018. Her awards include the Princess Grace Award, Toulmin Fellowship at the Center for Ballet and the Arts at NYU, Lotos Prize, and Suzanne Farrell Dance Prize. She is a graduate of Harvard University.
